Dachshund Grooming FAQs

How often should I groom my Dachshund?

Smooth coats: Every 6-8 weeks for baths and nail trims. Longhaired: Every 6-8 weeks with brushing at home. Wirehaired: Every 8-12 weeks, depending on how you maintain the coat (stripped vs. clipped).

Do Dachshunds shed a lot?

Yes! Even smooth-coated Dachshunds shed, especially during season changes. Longhaired varieties shed moderately. Regular deshedding baths help significantly reduce the fur around your home.

My Dachshund hates nail trims. Can you help?

Dachshunds are notorious for being dramatic about nail trims! We use a gentle approach with lots of treats and patience. We also use a dremel to smooth nails, which many dogs prefer over clippers. Regular trims (every 2-4 weeks) help them get used to it.

Should I shave my longhaired Dachshund in summer?

We don't recommend shaving longhaired Dachshunds. Their coat actually helps regulate temperature and protects from sunburn. A good trim to neaten things up and remove excess undercoat is better than shaving.

Do you groom Dachshund mixes?

Absolutely! We groom all Dachshund mixes including Doxiepoos, Chiweenies, and Dorgis. These mixes often have unique coat combinations that we're happy to work with.
